AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF SIKADWAMMA ASSOCIATION
A STORY OF LOVE, LOSS, AND LEGACY
As I reflect on the journey of the Sikadwamma Association, I am overwhelmed with a blend of emotions—sadness, gratitude, and hope. Our story began with an unexpected and heartbreaking loss, but over time, it has become a powerful testament to love, community, and resilience.
It all started with the untimely passing of our beloved sister, Miss Derica Ofori. Her loss left us devastated, but it also united us in ways we never imagined. During the last days of December 2024, between the 27th and 31st, a WhatsApp group was created to bring together friends and classmates from our alma mater. Initially, the group’s purpose was simple: to support each other as we navigated the difficult days leading up to Derica’s funeral.
As we dealt with the emotional and logistical challenges of this period, four dedicated individuals emerged to take on leadership roles. Asiedu Andrews stepped in as Acting President, Optice Cudjoe Seth became the General Secretary, Owusu Ansah Emmanuel served as the Organizer, and Sheila Nketia took on the role of Treasurer. Together, we worked tirelessly to ensure that our sister was given a respectful and memorable farewell.
The funeral, held on Thursday, January 30th, 2025, marked a deeply emotional moment for all of us. The collective contribution of Ghc 1,500 from our group, out of a total amount of Ghc 5,890, reflected our shared commitment to honoring Derica’s memory. We were also incredibly touched by the generosity of our senior boys’ prefect and schoolmate, Nora, who contributed Ghc 3,000 from abroad to support our efforts.
As we bid our final farewells to Derica, we knew our journey as a group was far from over. We made the decision to elect new executives to guide us forward, and on February 12th, 2025, Anane Obour Stephen was elected as our new President. Alongside him, six other dedicated members took on their respective roles. That day marked a new beginning—one filled with hope, promise, and a renewed sense of purpose as we entered a new chapter of our collective journey.
Looking back on the past few months, I am filled with pride and gratitude. We have come a long way, from a small WhatsApp group formed in the wake of grief, to a thriving association that continues to grow and evolve. Our story is one of love, loss, and legacy—a testament to the strength of community and the enduring power of the human spirit.
